Project Announcement: The First Annual 13 Days of Halloween

UPDATE October 29, 2017: See the 2017 project at this link!

It’s a poorly kept secret that my favorite time of the year lies between September 1 and December 31. That’s when all of my favorite seasons and holidays (and my birthday) happen! I love Halloween, and my hype for the holiday starts on September 1st and rolls right through 11:59 PM on October 31st.

Last year I proposed a project called “31 Nights of Halloween” where I’d watch and review something Halloween related each day in October. Unfortunately, my work schedule was too demanding, and I only locked down seven movies and was forced to cancel the project. So this year, I’m starting over, and hitting a more realistic goal of 13. This will be much simpler and more achievable. I can also hit this up annually and watch 13 different items each year and never miss a beat. Sounds like a perfect goal and situation to be in!

If you’ve read my past blogs, you already know I have annual traditions that go along with this time of year. If not, take a quick second to review them here. Some of the top items I’m going to watch every year no matter what, even after I review them in this project. The main goal is to vary up my watchlist each time to hit a variety of genres outside of just traditional horror. I’m including suspense, thrillers, family films with Halloween included or featured, sci-fi, or anything else that can spark my spirit.

The list of potential project ideas is below. I am opening this up to suggestions until October 1st, which is when I’ll work out my schedule of movies. What would you like to see or include? Leave them in the comments!

I will probably try to vary horror, sci-fi, family, and TV each year for as long as I can. Also, some ideas may be rejected, but if so, I will post them at the bottom and explain why.

THE REJECT LIST

-Blair Witch series. I saw the first one and loathed it. I have zero interest in watching it again, or any of its sequels.
-Child’s Play series. I’ve never been a fan of Chucky as a character or a horror villain. I admit I laughed at scenes in Bride of Chucky, but otherwise I find him obnoxious.
-Final Destination series. Talk about jumping the shark. The movies get boring after the opening scene. I did enjoy the second one though.
-Jeeper’s Creepers. Hated the first one. Watched a death montage of the second. I’m good.
-The Mist. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I should retro my worst movies list and add this back.
-Paranormal Activity series. Same as Blair Witch.
-Scream series. I’ve seen the first one twice. It didn’t do anything for me. I watched the second one for Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the third one for the Jay & Silent Bob cameo. That’s about it.

    1. Not a chance. The movies are all watched. This won’t impact my writing at all. Funny you mentioned it but I just resumed writing it this afternoon before I decided to pen this list quickly.
